@jax may i ask why? whats th reason for foregoing even a ui library or anything like that? im not AGAINST that idea, one time i was porting a game to linux and decided to make it in raw openGL and C because compiling from rust with a 3D library made it a few (hundred?) megabytes too large for my tastes, so ill probably totally understand whatever the reason is...im just curious

@jax issues with designing ui in relation to what operating system the user is on isnt something ive heard of before. again i feel like i must be missing something in your post. it usually all still boils down to openGL or some widget toolkit, the only difference with the latter is how mac and windows and linux will render stuff like buttons and radios differently because of incongruous design language shit. but semantics is still the same and they should still appear fundamentally identical between platfor

@jax idk pikidiary renders just fine on my end minus the cool aliased font not appearing because its a windows font. most popular web browsers work basically identically across operating systems, i only really see it being an issue if youre making software that relies on system calls, which is not websites

@johnhorne of course most people havent realized the merit of linux or simply understandably just dont care for it, so youll probably want to dual boot windows if wine (compatibility layer for running windows applications) doesnt work. i do that personally, but i really only go into windows once every few months and only because i need to fix an old NTFS drive and thats it. used to do it for roblox but theres a workaround now that lets you play it on linux so no more need

@johnhorne im not going to force linux onto anyone but my advice to anyone initially repulsed by it is to just give it a try, most popular linux distros are nice in that they let you run a full featured demo of the OS on the installation medium alone. distros like puppy linux run ENTIRELY on the installation medium and it lets you carry around an OS with you localized within the filesystem of a pen drive or other, its awesome once you realize the shit linux lets you do
